- Magnetic particles of ExtraGenBlack®, which are a composite of iron oxide (Fe2O3) with silica gel (SiO2), are intended for use as a sorbent for the isolation of nucleic acids from biological samples by magnetic separation. The principle of the method is the ability of silicon dioxide, which is part of the ExtraGen® particles, under the action of special reagents (polyethylene glycol, guanidine thiocyanate, concentrated sodium chloride, etc.) to selectively bind nucleic acid molecules from lysed biological samples. In addition, under the influence of an external magnetic field, it is possible to locally concentrate the ExtraGen® particles at the vessel walls, separating them from the liquid lysate. In a similar way, the washing of particles with sorbed nucleic acids from impurities (proteins, cells, components of buffer solutions) with special reagents is carried out. After purification from impurities, the nucleic acids are desorbed into a pure solvent.
ExtraGenBlack® can be used with a wide range of lysing and binding buffer solutions used in molecular biology. For effective separation, it is recommended to use neodymium magnets or a special magnetic tripod. It is permissible to use a magnetic sorbent with automatic nucleic acid isolation stations. Purified nucleic acid samples can be used for scientific or diagnostic purposes (PCR diagnostics, forensics, food analysis).
